Markets closed firm positive today after strong Q2 results by Infosys amid firm global trend. The S&P BSE Sensex surged up by 255.68 points or 1.26% to 20,528.59. It touched a high of 20,559.69 and a low of 20,368.06 in the intra-day. The CNX Nifty rose up by 75.25 points or 1.25% to 6,096.20. It touched a high of 6,107.60 and a low of 6,046.40 in the intra-day trading session today.
Among the sectoral indices, IT index and Bankex index spurted up by 3.12% and 3.09% followed by indices such as Capital Goods, Realty and Auto all gaining between 3-1%. Oil & Gas was other notable sectoral index gainer. Metal index dropped by 1.49 followed by Power and Healthcare index declining by 1.10% an 1.09% each. FMCG, Consumer Durables and PSU were other sectoral losers on the list. In the broader markets, Mid-cap and Small-cap index closed up by 0.33% and 0.47% respectively.
Among the index gainers, ICICI Bank leading the list by surging 5.01% followed by Infosys and L&T up by 4.79% and 4.26%. Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, HDFC Bank, TCS, Wipro, Hero MotoCOrp, Gail (India), SBI and Jindal Steel were also on the gaining list rising between 4-1% respectively. Other notable gainers include ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Industries and HDFC.
Among the index losers, Coal India dropped by 3.88%, Tata Power, NTPC, Hindalco Inds, Sun Pharma, Sesa Sterlite and ICT slipping between 3-1%. BHEL, and Tata Steel were other losers on the list.
The overall market breadth was positive with 1,335 shares advancing as compared to 1,131 shares declining.
